This piece was painted more instinctively than most of my work, focusing less on realism and more on atmosphere, colour and movement across the water.

I wanted the light to feel slightly exaggerated and almost overwhelming, the way sunsets sometimes stop looking entirely real for a few minutes before disappearing completely. The softer edges and warmer palette gave the painting a much looser feel than my usual work, which was probably overdue.
