This piece was painted more as a character study than anything overly formal. There was something about the expression and ridiculous fringe that immediately made him feel more like an individual than just another animal reference photo.

I wanted the painting to feel soft and calm, focusing on the warmer tones through the fur and the slightly curious expression rather than pushing loads of contrast or drama into it. He ended up looking equal parts scruffy, sweet and mildly confused.
