I wanted this piece to feel fairly still and understated, focusing more on the shape, posture and texture of the bird than trying to make it overly dramatic.

Most of the work went into slowly building up the feather detail and colour transitions, mainly because kingfishers seem to contain far more shades of blue than feels entirely necessary.
