Most of the time on this piece was spent building up texture slowly layer by layer, mainly because elephant skin turns out to be far more complicated than it initially seems and I apparently enjoy making life difficult for myself.

I wanted the drawing to feel calm and fairly understated, focusing more on the weight and character of the animal than making everything overly dramatic.
